The name Charlene Oliver may not be instantly recogniseable to many people, but play them the first few bars of the song “I’ve Never Been To Me”, and you have a different story!!

Her big break came when she recorded a song called “Sweet Sad Clown”. This was presented to Berry Gordy from Motown Records, and within a month Charlene was signed, and working alongside such artists as Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder (with whom she recorded her the hit single “Used To Be”). It was during this period that she was presented with a song called “I’ve Never Been To Me” and since then things have never been the same!

The song was a Number 1 hit single all over the world, and Charlene also enjoyed the accolade of being the first white artist to have a number 1 record on the Motown label. The song was then featured in the international hit film ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ and thanks to the new stage musical version of the film currently wowing audiences across the world, everyone is now once again talking about Charlene..
